The pilot house of the Brooklyn.
Is made of clear lexan.
Or some sort of clear plastic.
Anyway you have to tapeup the windows.
if you want clear windows to show!
So, now i'm waiting for 10mm tape.
To tapeup the forward windows on the brooklyn!
Pacients is a virtue!
In the plans Dumas wants you to neatly.
cut the windows out.
Just to put another piece of clear plastic in it's place!
What? yes cut it out to replace it with another piece of plastic!!!!
Caution:
Put tape on the inside of the captain cabin.
Where the windows are.
It will keep the inside windows from being over spayed!
When you take the tape off.
The windows will be clear of any over spray!

So far the hardest part of the build is the pilot house!
Painting it will be another challenge.
Oh, not sure what they where thinking drinking or sniffing!
But the pilot house needs to be redesigned...….
A lot of the builders of the Brooklyn.
Paint the whole pilot house.
Then paint the windows black!
Today I worked on the ladders!
Fairly simple to do. Just had to measure the rungs.
Cut them to size 1 1/4"! The actual rung will be 3/4"!
Wait for the glue to set. Then cut off the excess!
Note:
Take your time it can be done with no problems!

Today was a good day to spray paint the Deck Hardware.
I also hand painted the Fire Monitor too!
I painted the Deck Hardware black.
The main Deck will be a light Tan.
And the Main Cabin Deck light Grey!
Note:
I used duct tape to hold the small parts.
While I painted them!

Hi Ed, stick with the switches you have!
Those little ones are only rated for 300mA.
Don't use them for switching the motor supply!!
Yours are 6A which should be enough for your motor.
They'll have some 'safety margin' built in anyway.
Cheers Doug 😎
Windows finally taped!
Now all I have to do.
Is putty the main cabin deck.
Around the fascis board (coaming around main cabin).
Maybe paint the superstructure by Thursday or Friday!

Yey, the running lights arrived!
OK, I was going to put deck lights But, am not!
I figure port starboard steaming ahead. and one Lamp is enough! also don't want to run all those wires!
Still waiting for some resisters to arrive in the mail.
And also waiting for some Slide DPDT switches to arrive as well!

When you get 'em Ed push a little grease into the base of the toggle, to ensure that wet stuff doesn't get in! They'll work much longer than the slide switches. Apart from the flimsy construction of the slide switches the toggle switches have a self-cleaning action and are more robust. Ciao, Doug 😎
It is a beautiful summer day.
Thought I'd do some spraying!
So I sprayed the Brooklyn's Pilot house and main cabin!
The origanal Brooklyn was a deep dark green.
But I thought against using a dark green!
I myself like a light green tug! But the port lights will be a dark green! to show some contrast. The pilot house window frames will be a brown (Using brown primer) for this!
All the hand rails will be black....
So, What do you think?

My first tug I worked on was made of wood!
She's now retired and is a museum piece!
Built in 1932 with a GM 6110 Diesel.
My Capt had me polish. The only thing made of brass.
Was her ships bell! I spent 9 years polishing that bell.
There's no way I want the crew of the Brooklyn.
To remember me by Polishing brass!!!!😜
Today is another great summer day!
So, I took to spraying the Handrails and Davits.
The handrails that go around the cabin aft.
Need to be made up and sprayed as well!
The Life rings that come with the kit.
Are made of white metal.
I figure for now spray them orange.
And put white ribbons every 90 degree's!
Kind of make them look like life rings!

OK, I've learned that.
When paint companies make a batch of paint.
You should get as many cans from that batch as possible!
For a set project if need be!
I used Bright Touch automotive paint.
For the bulwark and outer hull.
Had to get two more cans of the stuff.
It being BT43 Flat Black!
Wouldn't you know it's a different shade!😡
Not too far off but, noticeable!
At least the Red Oxide Primer.
Being BT51 is the same shade!
I must have lucked out on that one!
So what have I learned.
Get two or more cans if needed at the same time!👍

Today besides spray painting the handrail to the Brooklyn.
I recieved the resister and Switches.
I had ordered two weeks ago!
The resisters come in a plastic bag.
With the various values on the reverse!
Now all I have to do. is spend the weekend sorting resisters.
And putting them in other plastic baggies. With the values written on them Oh, joy!😱

Have fun Ed😉
Write the values on the tape holding them together as well.
Helps when you've got several out the bags!
BTW: are the toes an optional extra these days? 😁😁
Don't get too lit up, G'night all, Doug 😎
Today I spent 2 hours sorting resisters!
It was a very boring task.
But one that had to be done.
I found what Resister I'm going to use.
I don't want the running lights on the Brooklyn.
To be bright so I will be using 270 Ohm Resisters.
On all the running lights.
This will help keep them not too bright!
Remember the Brooklyn is a 1910 Tugboat.
I don't think running lights were bright back then!

Some places you can also buy a little mechanical calculator. See pic of mine.
Turn the wheels to show the colours you see and read off the value below.
Example shows a 1k Ohm 5% tolerance resistor. 10x100!
Alternatively; if you are looking for a specific value, turn the wheels until the numbers below show what you need and the dials will show the colours to look for👍 Happy 'wheeling'. Ciao, Doug 😎
Hi Doug,
Thanks a bunch!
That's, what I used! I wasn't about to spend days on this!
Oh, I remember when Radio Shack use to sell the color slide rule Calculator. Now that was a long time ago....
