TRUMPETÈER 1/200
Well a couple of photos of the progress so far. Prop shafts and rudder now installed motors which at present are 340 brushed lined up and dry running seems OK. Bit of vibration from the motor mounts at present, this was my first attempt at making a mount and probably require some more adjustment. Started on main superstructure now plus cutter boats and funnel. Great fun NOT with the brass pe fittings/definitely need glasses 😂. Hopefully do some more tomorrow and during the week, whilst waiting for DVLA to respond 😀

I'm not really a fan of direct drives nor single u-joints. Double u-joints with a short shaft, Dumas dog bones, or other FLEXIBLE couplings help reduce vibration as well as stress on the motor mounts and wear on the shafts. These are are my choice. (Also makes motor replacement easier.)

    Looking good Chris.
I’ve no experience of Trumpeteer items.
It’s looks quite accurate from the pictures.
    Keep us all posted.

HMS Nelson

A little bit more this afternoon, taking a while as having to make too many phone, now getting more confused 😕, both with phone calls and what appears to be both confusing and sometimes backward instructions 😂

Thanks for the comments and feedback so far-good to have and take on board 😀. Normally, I have the phone on silent and in the house 🏠 but at moment I'm having to keep "annoying " DVLA to get an update, evidently been on priority/urgent list since 18th May-hate to think what non urgent is 😂. Anyway enough grumbling, down to the lake now for some sailing ⛵️. Have a great rest of the day whatever your time zone is 😁

You have been a busy boy.
Coming together nicely I must say.
Going to be fun painting it all.
Where snouts do you sail in Taunton out of interest.
    Regards Bill.

HMS Nelson/superstructure update

A little bit more, having a love/hate relationship with brass photo etching-getting there. Plus side is that every bit of etching completed is one less to do😀

    I perfectly understand your frustration.
I had to build two Tamiyas 1/350 Missouri for two collectors and the photo etched parts drove me nuts.
But don’t worry, next time you build another like her, it will be easier.😂🤣😂🤣

Near disaster

Went into the garage /workshop/ "shipyard " this evening and the wind blew very strongly and Nelson ended up on the floor. Thankfully no major issues and managed with a few curses to right the damage. Now going for a well deserved cup of tea.
On the plus side, hoping to install a smoke generator for the smoke stack. Anyone have any suggestions/one's to avoid?

    Hi Doogle
I don't know how much room you have to play with in your boat, I have been using a smoke unit designed for 1.16 tank in mine, if you are happy to wait you could get one off AliExpress for about £4 + P/P they will run off 7.4v and give you smoke for most of the day only using a few drops of oil.

Superstructure now complete

Managed to finish off without any more mishaps 👍. Brass etched parts I still struggle with and find that patience is a virtue😂. Pleased with what I've accomplished so far and had an initial visit to the "spray shop".
Finer details and any weathering still to be done

    Beautiful.
I had forgotten that she mounted as many quad Bofors. I think that they were fitted at Philadelphia.

Paint shop

Well now that I've got more time on my hands at the moment thanks to DVLA and hospital misinformation (apologies for the grumbling), managed to do a little bit of painting this morning. Trying out homemade techniques with hopefully not overly weathering. Poor lighting doesn't help either, so I guess I'll have more time at the moment to sort out my working area to perfection 😂

    Well done.
Really starting to look like the real thing now.
How are you finding the weathering aspect?

Thanks for the compliments Bill, with regards to weathering, I'm working carefully-don't want to overdo it although hopefully being rc I won't need too much fine detail. Currently working on my bottle of rust to apply at some stage.

So many pieces!!!

A little bit more this afternoon, brain 🧠 hurts from all the numbering up of pieces required for later on. Plus a couple of shots, although not flattering but one gets the basic idea. Work in progress

She breathes and lives

Been a few days whilst "battling" with tiny deck fittings topside before returning to the guts of the matter. It probably looks a little crude but it works. "Borrowed 2 x 340 brushed motors and esc's from my Vietnam era atc(h) / armoured troop carrier (helicopter). This was my first attempt at scratch building and is currently mothballed for a bit of TLC. So I digress-back to Nelson. Motors and rudder servo installed and initial dry running all good. Now assembly has started on the main armament with an assortment of gears that I came across this morning whist having a tidy up. The plan is to have the central turret operating from a servo unit with the other 2 being turned with the use of the ⚙️. Not sure how yet but I have a plan 😀, well in my mind anyway.

    Chris.
Now your making progress and here is hoping that all went well with the dry run.
The gearing components look interesting for the main armament operation.
I look forward to watching progress on that as well as everything else.
    Keep at it 👍👍
    Regards
    Bill.
