About this boat
Kestral #2 (Blue Cabin) was build during the Covid 19 lockdown for my second Grandson.
Construction is of Balsa mainly 1/16" and some 1/8" for the internal structure. The sides and bottom are 1/32".
Currently, both models are brushed motors, but due to heat and motor life, I plan to change them both to brushless soon.

Let me add that I don't use excessive current when charging them, and stay with the charger at all times.
While these batteries have had some "accidents" I feel that if constructed correctly and handled in a responsible manner, it is safe to use by responsible people. I carry one in my pocket all day long via my cell phone.😊
You also mentioned the motor mount. These are home-brew aluminium cut sheet based on a plan I believe I got from the Marine Craft website? I do plan to install brushless motors in these two boats, will probably have to modify or remake the mounts. Although looking at my picture, it is from a previous installation of a smaller DC motor which was wedged in with balsa wood. Newer motors had much more torque, so I had to physically mount in the motor mount.
I will do a build blog when I change out to the brushless motors.
Saw they included a brushless motor mount - might make it easier.
I am a little worried about Lipos in a kids boat - you read so much about the problems if they are not handled correctly but NIMH's have such a weight penalty - would like to hear your view.
