Original Sea Nymph unmade kit.

About this boat

I noticed this kit had been for sale on eBay for some time, and when it popped up in my previous browsing history yesterday, I was surprised to see it was still available.

An acceptable offer was made to fill this small gap in my Classic Model Power Boat collection, and it has been accepted.

I have always liked the look of the Aerokits Sea Nymph ever since I saw a nicely built and painted one in the 1960’s.

It is a good looking model boat…….if only it was a little bigger….

Bob.

I wouldn’t want to fit an outboard motor to this Sea Nymph, but I do like the look of the outboards that Will has provided the links for me to view on eBay.

For use on my Sea Urchin, I think they would be a really good choice, but I am surprised at how expensive these old used (and sometimes “untested”) motors are being offered for.

I remember them being cheap little units back in the 1960’s when they were more readily available, but I will start a thread for the Sea Urchin to discuss this on more fully and leave this thread open for the Sea Nymph.

My own Sea Nymph will be built with a prop shaft as per plan, but I would be very tempted to fit a small outboard motor to my Sea Urchin if I could find one that works for a reasonable price.

@ChrisF maybe one with a small inrunner fitted, one not too powerful so that it doesn't stress the casing and gears too much, but is more efficient than a brushed motor.

@Madwelshman I've got one of the Chrysler looking ones. Could do with painting to make it look less toy like. Must try it on a battery.

They used to produce some very ones years ago but most are collectors pieces and very expensive now unfortunately.

@Avoca They certainly are. Here's the one I bought which is a bit bigger and a bit of a beast! It has a 2075 kV brushless water-cooled motor. They are designed for tunnel hulls and mono raceboats really.

    Thanks Chris,

I think the outboard motor size that would suite the Sea Urchin is one of the old types that used to be sold in the Keil Kraft catalogue to fit the small CRESTA speedboat and the like.

Small and inexpensive and not very powerful.
