For sale vintage plank on frame large model of union castle line RMMV Stirling castle,very nice model completely scratchbuilt by someone,its probably pre war,removable superstructure to reveal Vintage electric motor,I am in Littlehampton on the south coast of the uk😁👍available on preloved and gumtree

I belong to a Meccano society so that bit is easy to explain. Depends how old Rod is re the clockwork motors! The small one is a Magic motor, (blue ones are hard to find) the other probably a No. 2 clockwork motor, even with boxes not worth much (sorry).
In Uk the top Meccano set was the No. 10, pre-war it was the L (bigger than the 10 set) set but that was a long while ago. The rarest Meccano set is probably the blue with hatched gold lines No. 9A set, still in its box ,of course! The stationary engine sounds like the Mamod one and as you say meant to be used with Meccano. If you have an upright Steam engine by Meccano and it is working and with box we are approaching Rolex territory!
The electric Meccano motors originally worked off mains electricity and were potential death traps! Then they standardised on 20 volt AC or DC. I have one with paperwork produced in 1940 which I got running a few months ago, there is a smell similar to the Taycol motors about them.
My daughter in law keeps giving us flavoured candles, much prefer the smell of oil and electicity at speed.
The other thing is I collect model electric motors and try to use them again in model boats. I have a B.L. Marine (square magnet) which I actually bought myself when new. This runs in a replica copy I made of Sea Jay launch originally made by Bowman.
I have a friend who is an encyclopedia on toys and models he would be my first reference source.
The rest you just pick up as you go along.

Interesting comment on the u/j, I had Meccano here in Canada from an early age. Used to receive an upgrade set every year at Christmas until I had the equiv of I believe a #12 if I recall correctly. Plus 2 clockwork motors, a large & a very small. Never had an electric one, tho.
Also had a stationary Steam engine with holes in the base that had same pitch as Meccano, & it cud power Meccano models. This universal hardware set fostered creativity unlike the sets today that hav only the parts necessary to build a copy of the box illustration.
I can imagine the amount of time and passion involved in building this model.
I also have to wonder who the person was that devoted this effort to it.
Here is a good example of why the interior of a model should be signed buy the builder and also dated.
I am sure there are many of us who would like to know.

Hope this helps, they are relatively expensive motors especially if you have the box they come in!
The U/J is a Meccano one still available on sale so shaft is 4mm dia.
