This is a commercial made (in the U.S. by Vortex), based on the real Soling competition boats. For mine, made two new masts and sails, one medium and one at the maximum height, both using the maximum sail area permitted.
DonW1: Mast and spars are wood, can't remember what kind (45 years ago). It was about 1 inch square by 8 ft long. Split it length wise, hollowed it a bit, sanded one edge, and cemented it back together to make the captured luft. Then sanded the outside to a teardrop profile. The sails are scraps from a sailmaker's loft.
Looks great. A classic for sure. I have one two. I am rebuilding mine now. Have all original hardware. Upgrading a few items such as sail control, sails and a B-rig. Love my Vortex Soling.
