The fitted motors expired so had to open her up and have now fitted some more standard motors 400's I think but they work and run time is reasonable. The motors are coupled through 3:1 gearboxes and positioned more to the front so as to allow for a larger battery.

this is a slightly modified RTR tug Southampton the main casing has been lowered and a bigger battery fitted, but she still has the original motors and props, she is seen her towing a large barge a flat top pontoon ,a small tug and a Graupner German patrol boat, with a model slipways Envoy doing its best to overturn the lot.

🙄 Must be me beeing fick but can you explain what you have done to lower the ? "casing" pics would be good. What battery have you fitted as I have mine in bits at present ready to install a proper esc "Viper Marine 15". I was going to go the route of 8 AA NiMI 3000mah in original compartment so interested in what you have done as it looks great in the video. 👍

I built this one about 3 years ago she is built at 1/24th scale 50"long and is a plank on frame hull , scratch built using lime wood planking and 9mm ply for the frames and keel, the rest is birch ply of various thicknesses.
she has a 12volt cooling fan motor driving a 4" prop,and has a 12volt 48amp hour battery ,plus some lead for ballast,with working lights and revolving radar scanner

HI Ralph we have a launchung crane at our club so it is not really a problem with size and weight, most of my big tugs actually weigh less than 30lbs without the battery and ballast, I use 46amp hour gel cell batteries where possiblt and then trim with lead blocks ,the Atlantic Cock has her battery plus 3 x3lb lumps of lead so she goes into the cradle light, then is loaded and launched mechanicaly simples really and no bad backs. I hate leaving models as standard, the Southampton Tug a RTR model, needed to be more manoeuvrable, so removed original 27Mhz receiver and fitted Two Electronic speed controllers one for each motor, and a 2.4Ghz receiver. The model will now turn in its own length and has become very good for controlling in small spaces. Will change the standard motors next for something with a little more pulling and pushing power. it runs all morning on a 1 x 6 cell AA Nimh 2700Mah battery pack.

Got this one off ebay, had to use a little artistic licence with the paint scheme as club has several members with same scheme, so didnt want to look the same. The one thing I could not get over was how many parts were left over from the revell kit. Have a 380 motor in it with a msoniks 15 amp esc, could not get over how much ballast was needed to get her to sit in water true, but got there in the end. Now working on making homemade smoke generator to go in funnel, first tests great using nichrome wire and 6v battery, just have to make housing to go in funnel. Have tested parker black ink mixed in smoker fluid and effect looks fantastic.

hI grandadave, if you are talking about the prop going forwards and backwards, then it is the speed controller that handles that. I just put a mtroniks 15amp esc in it and that handles the forwards and backwards no problem. After that it is sorting out the transmitter or just get a cheapy car one off ebay as they have forwards and backwards on them. regards steve

1965 U.S. Lindberg Plastic Special Edition John F Kennedy P T 109 Boat. The P T 109 boat was mainly employed around the islands surrounding the Philippines, hence the reason why the boat was painted to match the background colours of these islands. Bought in a part built state and took me, with help and advice from other model boat guys, about 12 months to get it up and running. Powered by twin motors, shafts & props, with a single 8 cell 9.6 volt battery.

Almuazzar is type 42 destroyer built by Vosper. The model is powered by two smiths motors and a 50 amp scooter battery, she is 83 inc long 15 inc beam.

Purchased secondhand, upgraded to a proper motor esc rather than the original/factory on/off micro switch for the motor power. Running a graupner 600 race motor and 7.4 lipo, basically just to run the brushes in on the motor before raising the battery voltage,
bit of a shaky video but try holding the transmitter and filming at same time on your own [ha ha].
it does have the capacity to move a ot faster, but would sooner work the motor in fully first

Another ebay purchase, a Fire Tender which I think is from the 50's. it is fitted with a very unusual old motor with sprung loaded brushes, capacitors, and a fan.... seems to run happily on 12v, which I plan to reinstall. Does anybody recognise it? it was fitted with a 'spring' universal joint. I am fitting a conventional UJ. There is also a circular switch attached to the motor. This appears to be wired to switch in up to 3 battery supplies! but I think I will fit a modern controller with modern nicads.
I sail at the Maldon and Blackwater Model Boat Club at Heybridge.

Yes it is...I scratch built it using a GRP 'workboat' hull as a base. I used a simple drawing from the 'Jolie Brise' book blown up to size. I altered the bow, stern and the keel to match the drawing. The rig is slightly undersize and simple the keel is deeper, the deck layout is very approximate taken from photos but simplified to make it more robust for sailing. it has a winch for sail control and the rudder is controlled from the tiller via lines and blocks to a servo under the cabin top.
As you probably know the boat was bought as a Le Havre Pilot boat by EG Martin who then instigated the Fasnet Race, which Jolie Brise won 3 times.

HI Frank I have built model of jolie brise from plans I got from France made few years ago as static model, I have made uo a false keel that I can fit as and when I get round to making sails, have provision for steering via chords running thro the deck in tubes to the steering servo, as yet no thought as to how to install sail winch as have only small openings where hatches fit. you are right about her being pilot cutter and winning fastnet 3 times, she was however built by Monsieur Paumelle in 1913, I hope at some time to get her on the water.

Sailing at Cwmbran August 2012. its a Billing Polar Trawler, not now made but at about 32 inch long is a managable size. Twin 385 motors 35mm 3 blade brass props. and running on a 7.2 volt 3700 mAh NiMh viper speed controller and a 2.4 Ghz RC it will potter around all morning on one battery. I originally ran it on a 6Volt 4Ah Gel Cell and 27 Mhz setup.

I have had this boat for about 5 years, so thought that it would like a day out. Sailing at Cwmbran August 2012. its a Billing Polar Trawler, not now made but at about 32 inch long is a managable size. Twin 385 motors 35mm 3 blade brass props. and running on a 7.2 volt 3700 mAh NiMh viper speed controller and a 2.4 Ghz RC it will potter around all morning on one battery. HI Rob if you have an email address that I could use I have photos of the boat, a friend at my club is also restoring one so I have just taken some photos but I could take some more of the areas that you require easily, sadly I do not have a plan myself as my polar was bought on Ebay at least 5 years ago and I had to work from a billing catalogue photo and some photos from old Model Boat Magazines. Hope to hear from you if that will help.
