Yard Sale find
On the weekend spotted a yard sale . The older gentleman had restored a model he had built but the cat got to it . So because of his age he had decided to no longer have a hobby . We talk about model boats & stuff & he gave the wood to me & the 3 models . Future Build blog projects Maybe but wood is always handy to have in case power goes out.

I think that cat might make a nice …Careful Ron there are cat lovers out there …

Instead of trying to rebuild it, maybe keeping it as an “After the Battle” of Cats Bay mantle piece.

I have a cat and she like to investigate anything new that comes home so I have got to be extra careful. I have jus bought a 3D printer and currently making a bench that is cat proof as I can just imagine her dancing on the hot table. Wish me luck. Cheers Ian😍

Info on Smoke Maker
Was asked for more info . So here are a few photos . This mini humidifier uses water only to generate fake smoke no smelly baby oil & varsol odor 50%-50% mix for Graupner smokers .I get the power to run unit from the receiver battery port as the unit uses a USD port to make it work so I got a old servo & cut the wire off it removed the signal white wire & used the black & red wires to power up unit . I have to turn model on then power up the Humidifier to start fake smoke put the cabin on model & away we go. Make sure Positive & Negative are put in proper receiver slots Please don't damage receiver if it's plugged in wrong.

TV Segment on the Suncoast Scale Model Boat Club (Florida, USA)
A few years back one of the TV stations in the Tampa Bay area sent a professional media crew out to record one of our meets. I got a copy of the finished video (permission granted by the TV station for reproducing). It is quite uplifting and shows you what model boating in Florida looks like.
I hope you enjoy it!

More pics from the Edina Model Yacht Club Season Opener
These were taken by a fellow club member, who obviously has a keen eye for photography.

Now that is how you show photos of model boats! Crop the photo or use a zoom/telephoto lens to bring the subject in close leaving a little water around the edge. Thanks for doing that.

Onboard footage
This tug is large enough to mount a iPhone inside the bridge. Footage was however done with a phone mounted in front of the bridge.
The various models you see was for the so-called Annual Record Day where the idea is to see how many boats can be in the dam. As you can see, very few actually run, and some only have a little toe in the water.
There was 122 "models" that day in 2022 setting a "new" record.
In 2023 nothing was organised and in 2024, the "record" was 75.

Great video, thanks for sharing. And, yes, that is a LOT of boats!!
Even 75 boats this past year is an impressive number.
It looks like an awesome pond to run in.
Our club has a nice venue, but ultimately it is a storm water runoff-fed pond. So no gradual beach and certainly no wading to set up the boats, that would be nice.

Our dam is also a storm water retention dam. No toilets and no clubhouse. Its 7meters deep in places but the launching area forms a beach during summer. Should start filling up from now onward though. Then the water get to the steps and you need to dust off the Wellys for that wading excurtions. 😊

This was one of our first attempts to use video editing software. We now use Capcut and Audacity to create soundtracks, voice overs, model SFX etc.

The best part was a previous shoot in slow motion. Video was too blurred but it still looks kinda cool

Aucklands' classic wooden boat festival ,1,2,3 March
Was invited to take my restored 1970s 12ft racing yacht (red and white one-93 at 1:3) down to put in the display this afternoon, at the Viaduct Event Center In Auckland, and decided to get some pics of the boats on and off water before the crowds come over the next 3 days. Lots of beautiful restored yachts and launches, as well as smaller racing and sailing dinghies. A couple of NZ designed and built Chris Craft copies inside as well. Also steam launches and a few models.

The boat at 1:54 and 3:12 does not have the usual V8 as you would expect, but has a 4 cyl Mercruiser motor, not as the drive motor, but as a generator running 3 high output alternators powering an electrical system for twin electric motors, (round black objects seen in pic, in front of petrol motor). Shafts run each side of petrol motor, Has large control boards on each side for each motor. Boat and laminated wooden trailer designed and built by the owner, Took 2000hrs to build,- absolutely immaculate workmanship.
Also a short vid on an Auckland ferry trip I took while waiting for the liner Queen Victoria to
depart

Sailing at Madrid (Spain)
As far as I know, there is not a model boat club at Madrid. However, modellers gather Sundays at 10:30 to sail at a pond -actually a set of four connected ponds-, located in a municipal park, in the south of the city. Access is free.
The boat in the video is a sidewheeler, scratch built by my good friend Eduardo Yraola, who is a far more accomplished modeller than I am. She has steam propulsion, and sails at a majestuous pace.

I wonder about this boat turning radius. Is there a speed differential to the paddle wheels, or is the turning all done by the rudder?
