Sand Francisco Model Yacht Club
San Francisco Model Yacht Club had their open house and show on Sept 15 weekend. They are located at Golden Gate Park on Spreckels Lake. They also have a Clubhouse at that location. These are a few photos of this event.

Miss Carlton
I thought I would post this here for those in the UK who may have built the model of this boat. 1963 "Miss Carlton" on sea trials. This is a Press photo.

I like the copyright and filing info on the back of the photo. I used to work in the BBC TV News picture library and we had thousands up thousands of pictures like that in the basement. We could still access most of them within five minutes. too.

My recently refurbished 1/12th Scale Brede Lifeboat
Modelled on RNLB 33 - 07 Inner Wheel towards the later end of her service when the enclosed radar had been replaced by the Furuno rotating array. I know its to fast for scale speed but I was enjoying its first outing post refurbishment!

What is this boat?
Has anyone seen a model or plans for a boat like the one I found on holiday. I was in Elounda Crete when I came across this and thought what a lovely model it would make.

lighting
Just answering a question about the club run at night & yes some guys go overboard with lighting hope I can photo some of the more exotic lighted model boats. Here is my Gumboot Cloggeroo lobster model boat with a few lights . That name is a song by Stompin Tom Connors a Canadian song writer .

I try and keep mine as they would be in real life, this is just one of my tugs.
The reason they are so bright is that a few of the members of my old club could not see the duck house in day light, let along a model boat.

If you are looking for very low cost lighting ( that is not scale ), I purchased extra blinking bicycle lights that are battery powered. These are small cubes that emit red or white and I am sure others as well.

I just place it on my boat and let it go at my pond. They are bright and fun to watch.

Andrea Gail
The model boat club I'm in will hold a boats in the park at night on Thursday Sept.19th at 6:30 P.M. At Spencer's pool in Burlington . We do get a lot of spectators that enjoy the lighted model boats So I figured I'd better install some lights on my Andrea Gail the photo isn't that good but it will have to do for now. P/S installing lights sure is a pain ! And I'll take a few shots when it's darker.

Devonport Maritime Museum
My wife and myself have returned from a rushed, but rewarding, week in the North West of Tasmania, Aust.

Our son insisted I accompany him and have a look at the Devonport Maritime Museum. Well worth it, with models of a lot of historical vessels, from clinker rowing boats through to windjammers, naval vessels and the evolution of ferries to the mainland.

Models include Slocum's 'Spray', SS Southern Cross, the oldest clinker dinghy in Australia, build using Huon Pine, and thought to be approx. 140 years old, and the Cutty Sark, which plied wool from Sydney to the UK.

Well worth the trip.

I have to admire the courage of the older sailors and their vessels. There are over 1000 wrecks around the island.

Roycv, I have just checked to see if i had more on the Spray, however only found one from a little further away. It gives a better look at the hull and deck. I have attached anyhow.

Also attached is a photo of the deck etc of the Lady Nelson. There is a replica in Hobart which is popular for harbour sailing or adventure voyages.

The original was built on the Thames and launched in 1798.

    Interesting website. https://www.ladynelson.org.au/ship/original-vessel/original-lady-nelson-timeline

Suncoast Scale Model Boat Club (Florida, USA) meet: Aug 18, 2024
We had a small meet but being I recently got a new camera I was able to test it out with a few photos and videos. The video is short at about 3 minutes.

(The sternwheeler is a work in progress and will be static model. It is a Chaperon kit modified to look like an operating sternwheeler here in Florida.)

Hi Lew, good job and congrats on the new camera. I hope you will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Photos are good and sharp and the video very clear.

One question I have and wondering what setting you have for your light balance. On my phone and computer, they came up as very blue.

    Looking forward to more...

Peterd, I have been using the default settings on the camera. Supposed to be a fairly "simple" aka "point and shoot" but there are a lot of settings and I need to see what is best.

It is a new camera but has been around for a while. I bought it because of the ratings, price, and features like splash proof, dust proof, and a good zoom, 4K HD, all is essential for me in photographing model boats and tanks.

Yard Sale Find
As promised A few photos & some members models in Spencer's pool Burlington. Some of the boats shown are from other model clubs mostly Toronto modelers so I can't mention names of members boats because I don't know their names. Still lots of time for sailing & the puffer still leaks so I'll put stuffing box on a steeper up angle above water line. I just love fixing a problem with my model boats.

Just a thought. Is your shaft log filled with a waterproof grease? I have a couple of models where the motor end of the shaft log is below the waterline. They are packed with waterproof grease which stops water incursion.

Photo shows construction of a grease reservoir.

SSMBC (Florida) model boat meet on July 21, 2024
Having missed a few model boat meets because of weather and health issues, I finally made a meet! Six of us enjoyed getting together mostly chatting. The day was clear and no breeze with made the 89F (32C) temperature seem a lot hotter. The Florida sun (same as yours but more aggressive)was brutal. Anyway, I am posting a few photos taken in the shelter. Trying to avoid the sun, I did not go on the dock to get some "in the water" photos.

Sure would like to see more pictures of the American Enterprise. Looks very close to the crew boat I bought off of FB market place. I couldn't resist the buy for only $40 bucks lm in the process of turning it into into a camcrahaft crew boat that in real life we turned into a CA Fish and Game patrol boat that I was the Motor Vessel Engineer on for 8 years.

Garth, it looks like you could open the video and hold yout finger on it while it is playing, then press "download video" on the pop up screen. You can choose where to download your video to (SD card, ...). I tested this on my cell phone.
