Not something you see every day! Saw a 'Sealegs' boat coming in from over the horizon and it eventually came straight onto and up the beach past the Orewa surf club. It then proceeded about 300m down the main road (holding up the traffic) to the petrol station to fill up, then went back and down the beach, into the water and away. Guy broke a number of rules doing this but looked like one of those 'don't give a stuff' people, His wife and tiny kid (the only one with a life jacket) were sitting in the back all the time.
The Sealegs is an NZ designed and built (built in Albany- Auckland) boat sold (and copied) all round the world. Really amazing piece of kit. Drive is hydraulic, and driven by a small self start diesel motor in its' own compartment. If I ever won Lotto I'd certainly be looking at one😁 They have a special drive on trailer as well.
Not my lake in the thumbnail, don't know where that came from😐

Hi Doug, see comments on the other vid😁. Most of the people who own these live on beaches with riparian access, so they can drive straight to the water from their front yards. Someone had parked one on a sand bank on the shore of the estuary a few weeks back and gone somewhere (visiting perhaps) and it looked hard case sitting there on its' wheels in the mangroves. They can also squat, and sit on the hull while on land with the wheels down slightly to level them. Pretty clever machine but rather expensive.!

I spent a day in one several years ago photographing an Etchells yacht race series in Australia. The versatility was brilliant, especially being able to pull up in the river at the end of the day and get photos that otherwise would have been lost.
Loved it but a tad out of my price range.

Scratch built 1:12 Shannon Ilfracombe 13 09
This amazing model is SCRATCH built (including the plug for the hull!!!) by John Sluman
Most fittings are machined metal, some incredcible skill in construction.
Boat in this video is running on brushed motors - it is now converted to brushless.

While I'm at it I have put up this video of my tug. I had been having problems with this and I completely replaced everything inside. Turns out the rudder servo was dodgy and the motor, a geared 500 was far too poky. It now performs beautifully and very quietly. Obviously it's an old Graupner Bugsier but refurbished by me to look a bit more like a British tug. The motor is a low noise 500 with direct drive mounted on a rubber sheet - the only noise is a whine from the esc.

Here we have two terrific RC models of the Motor Vessel CUMBRAE built by two Buxton Model Boat Club Members - No1 is Blue belonging to Roger and the second belongs to Paul..
The original vessel was built by George Brown & Co in 1936 for Clyde Pilotage Authority, Glasgow.

Made a few adjustments, including alloy braces for the motor pylon (was a bit flexible and I think it was twisting slightly under power. Rudder linkages still need tightening up (crappy HK clevises,-probably will fit ball links) but it was a bit better this time (apart from a high speed excursion into the rushes at the end,-no damage, got in the shadow and brain couldn't calculate time, angle and distance😁) Battery was down to 7.5v/cell after all this (4000mAh 3s) so not a bad run time. Only had full throttle for about 3 secs total, -too hairy!😁 Put in expo and dual rates but that didn't do much (too much rudder slop to be accurate). Back to the mod shop.

Hi. This is my 2nd scratch built boat since lock down began. The first was the H S L 103 finished 6/7 weeks ago. Still waiting to be tested outside of workshop. This one is built on a fibre glass hull, and has a length of 44 inches and a beam of 16. My power plant is twin out runner motors purple power. 600kv, running through twin 70 amp ESC and with 4 cell 5000 amp lipos feeding them. All accommodation is made using 6 mm three ply. And every fitting you see on the boat was scratch built by me. Lighting system is 12 v grain of wheat .props are three bladed brass 45 mm by prop shop

A test post on behalf of redpmg.
The engines are built by a mate of his.
"The boats are built by a 90+ year old gent by the name of Alan Raubenheimer, who used to make Rose Pop Pop Boats - used to advertise in MB etc.
Now into his 90s he has finally given up production."
Here goes🤞
Doug
It woiks 😊; just ignore the 'Invalid file' notice and click the blue magnifying glass and then the download button.
Run with Windows Media Player.
When it opens Press F11 for full screen or drag a corner with the cursor to enlarge.
Resolution is not too good I'm afraid🤔
Despite the music the action takes place in SA not Hawaii!😉
PS 8.5.20. Video fixed and enhanced a little 😀😎

Hi Doug, I finally figured out how to open this - it was well worth persevering with, this has a real feel good factor especially with the music and I like his R/C, and a steam outboard engine - brilliant.

Super tug and steering wonder. Bought as a kit and made from wood and plastic.
There was no instructions, and without them a nightmare.eventually getting them put the basics into perspective, eventually building the boat.i changed the motor to a 480 and made my own propshaft on the lathe, also a brass rudder, which is operated by mini servo. The esc is a 10 amp m.troniks which works great small but powerful, turns in its own length to port and starboard either astern or forwards

I thought it the most appropriate music for this RAF boat at speed. I too loved that film from the first time my Mum took me to see it at the Savoy cinema in Colombo, Ceylon (Sri Lanka) when it was first released in 1964.
