artesania kit of the tug samson .I always fit extra bits and pieces as i like to have individual non scale additions made from kit scraps attached or small resin items. They class this model as suitable for the inexperienced,i believe there should always be an adult to assist. The steel propshaft thread was damaged and i found the prop coupling is a bit cheap. The end result was excellent and the tug performs well

When I was in high school back in 1957 I built a kit of the Comet Gypsy Sloop Jr. in 2016 I found the drawings on-line for the Gypsy Jr. The boat was entered in woodworking class at our county fair where it received a blue ribbon. it has a working wheel that turns the rudder. Now I have under construction a 32 inch version that I would like to radio control. I'm not too sure how to set up or what type of servo to install.

Well done that man 👍
Unfortunately I'm not a yacheting man so can't help you directly with the setup.
BUT HEY! There's lots of yachties on this site! I've seen many discussions, threads and blogs on various yacht setups ....
Soooo ... pull your digits out guys, give the man a break and help him out with his yacht setup.
Cheers, Doug 😎

Go with swing arm servos for sail control, less trouble with the lines than winch. if room is a problem one can be used to control jibs & main. but separate controls are obviously best.

Proboat Aplha - ready to run.......model of Patrol Boat Riverine used by US Navy, Vietnam between 1967-72. Basic 1/18 scale able to attach small action figures for added dimension, model always look better with crew.
Great starter....already looking at larger scale military kits and really impressed with Deans Marine product range, unfortunatly little options to explore in Australia....so have to order most stuff in....vids will get better with experience...stay tuned.😉

Built originally in 1973 from a modav kit and powered by an Enya 35bbiii. Now running a 3548 brushless motor and 5800 3 cell lipo. Model in video was running an x35 prop with +/- 20 degrees of rudder, very sensitive on turns. Today's run was on x40 prop considerably faster with reduced rudder throw of +/- 15 degrees. Current draw was 30 amps max watts 376. Still too sensitive on turns.

Doug, Thanks for the reply, as far as I was aware the S type plastic props were less pitch than the X type plastic props. if your 35 mm metal prop is 1.4 pitch then it is similar to the X35 plastic prop I used in the first video. I think I need to investigate diameters and pitch a little more. Last week running my Huntsman I had an X40 plastic prop on and it was too large and way too fast, a friend running a 34 inch fire launch runs an X 35 so I may go back to look at a 😎35 mm dia metal prop and look at the pitch.
Regards Ian

Aha! Now I've learned something too👍 Thanks William
Actually I've been busily changing all my 'frayed' 😲 plastic props for cast brass ones. Cheers, Doug

Thanks Ron. I have tried to be most particular with scale speed and waterline. I used 1.2kg of ballast carefully laid out whilst hull was floating in the bath. Once in place I secured it with expanding foam.

I also have the same model, i struggled a bit with the balsa planking but eventually managed it. I was never happy with my UK version of the upperworks so ive since stripped it all down & am basically starting all over again but with the hull intact

Great minds think alike Haig👍
I've been wanting to have a go at Z38 for a long time.
Those 1936 / Narvic classes had nice lines.
Sea keeping wasn't so hot in the originals apparently!
Like the 'scope idea, will try it on my U26.
Saves having to break into the pressure hull👍
Which was always my biggest problem on COMMS system designs for 'toys' for the 'big boys'; minimising the hull breakthroughs!
With such a simple float how do you make it so 'free running' that it doesn't bind?
Cheers, Doug 😎

Hi Doug, I have used the floating periscope on my other submarine too. On that one there are two sets of two. if the periscope tubes slide easily and the float is big enough then it will work. I have used aluminium tubes on the HMS Triumph.
The U boat scopes are both aluminium. They are loose so I can put one or both in before sailing. The floats are balsa wood and painted for sealing.

I built this 1/125th scale Amati kit of the Titanic over two years from 2016. it has enhanced etched brass details from Minibrass. Conversion for radio control involved making the hull waterproof with multiple layers of fibreglass cloth bonded with epoxy resin as well as the installation of a drive train and RC gear. With only a tiny rudder, steering is dependent on a mixer unit controlling the differential speed of the propellors.

Hi Model boat enthusiasts,
This is a photo of almost completed 2 model boats I have almost completed. The Sea Queen 50 years old find. it was found in an attic in a kit. The kit was in a very poor state and most of the timberwork had to be glued back together or remade. I had no plans for it and had to source a copy from the Model Boat website. it is a very nice model. The pilot boat was scratch built and sails very nicely. I have been building boats for about 30years and have built over 25 boats, scratch built all of them. I have included photos of some of my boats.
