Thought I'd try for another vid to try and improve on the previous efforts. Had another still day and good tide, so went down to the estuary again. Bit of a mission again,- competing with a few 100% boats and the steep slippery ramp. Truck didn't do a lot better than the jeep, and it weighs about twice as much and has a 4x4 rear, but at least it managed to get the boat out of the water. Forgot to take a 2s for the thermostatic fan for the truck motor, so it got a bit hot and faded towards the end. A lot of work for a 550 geared motor !
Still getting used to the new editor so the vid's a bit scrappy. Almost impossible on a weekend to find the right space with no people, but there is not a lot of choice without going for miles. Fun trying to drive 2 vehicles,- truck doesn't have a handbrake like the jeep, so a bit tricky backing down the ramp. Whole outfit is 1.5m long, and weighs around 12kg.

It would be possible, I think, to operate both models from one Tx by adding some custom electronics to each model. This would need to operate like an RC switch controlled from a spare channel. One one model, the ‘switch’ would connect the servos and ESC to the Rx whilst at the same time on the other model, a switch would disconnect the servos and ESC. Operating the spare channel would reverse the state of the switches to allow the other model to be controlled.

The other part of the video (from the new camera) Finally found an editing program for it (cost me $40 though!) - I need one for MOV, as for some stupid reason, the makers of the camera use Apple Quicktime MOV which is a pain. Should be set now for editing.
New coupling with the cable ties seemed to hold up well this time, although the throttle end point is set to 80%,- looks scale enough as it is though.(only a 2400mah 3s battery, so not a long run time if you are going flat out- can suck 35-40A!). Pity the launching vid was rubbish, but have the amphitruck sorted with a towbar now, so I'll give it another crack when there is a good day.

Don't get many days a year like that one in NZ (no wind, tide just right, decent light and not too many people or boats (apart from the huge blue and white 'liner' docking 😁) Usually windy here, being on the coast.
Re the real one,- that was a lot easier to fish from, this one's a bit cramped lol.

Second go at getting a decent launch vid, - tricky when backing in as you have to manage steering, fwd/rev and handbrake together, (plus having to use 2 TXs and 2 cameras. ). Getting slightly better at it. Next time will be launched by the amphitruck, as it's bigger, heavier and has better grip, (and 4x4 rear drive.) Ramp was a bit wet and slippery for the jeep, (would pull it up in the dry ok) I have a 4k vid of the boat from the new camera, but need a new editor for MOV vids.

Almost finished the towbar for the amphitruck, so keen to try towing with that next time. The driveshaft brake on the jeep is a big help,- holds the 13lb lump easily.

Another vintage classic here , this one being the HFM 590 belonging to Buxton Model Boat Club member Dave Maynard.

- roycvFleet AdmiralHi is this a HFM thread? If so I have just got a Trimaran going again. The sails were crumpled but responded to a hot iron with a wet hanky in between. The old type servos all did their job and we found a lightweight battery (1/2 AA). In another bag we found the 2 keels, one with a weight the other had been fitted with a flying keel, popular Australian idea of the time.
All the rigging had retained it's strength but the plastic supports for the outside hulls were a bit bendy. This was reinforced both internally and on the surface. Lining up the hulls was a problem not quite right yet but not apparent when sailing.
Still using 27Mhtz and very effective, the model is at least 30 years old the plastic has not deteriorated. She was made by my son and he can usually get the best out of a sail boat. Now migrated onto full size yachts and Australia!
I hope she is a reminder for the HFM followers, I have a nice working 575 and my late friend John Cook built his Thames barge, a nice size and now retained by his widow. I bought the basic hull and lee-boards from Harvey for just £2.00 at the now gone exhibition at Sand Down Park.

Ok, in the last few seconds you can see the fish strike her. Rudder push rod bent, rudder had no control. Took 15 minutes to retrieve her. Hope I don't have that problem again. 🤔

In the last few seconds of the video you can see her jerk a couple times. Took a big fish strike. Bent the rudder pushrod bad. Lost a crew member figure lol. Not the best maiden voyage.Took about 15 minutes to retrieve her. Now have a fiberglass reinforced pushrod. Just part of the fun in this fantastic hobby!

It took a hit on the stern (believed to be by a pike) and she stopped and slowly sank stern first , just like the reel thing.☹️I hope your damage was'nt to bad.Liked by Dumaspittman

Hi friends, by the weight, it might have been a kite or a foam plane, but no it's Sterling scale from maybe 1980 or so that is something to behold.
I am certain the box also still had some rarefied 1980 air in the box I think...I recognized it. Such a pristine kit I am intimidated a bit, I hope you will appreciate it. Peace, my friends!

BROADS CRUISER 'FAIRACRE' TEST.
Took the cruiser out today as well, to try the new coupling I made, and test the new downrated motor. Now using a 550 80T as opposed to the 550 45T previously. Runs very quietly now with almost 0 vibration and a more scale top speed.

The plans from MAP originally, she is not a broads cruiser ,but i can see why it was thought to be, but a 40FT Starcraft built in the late 50's early 60's by W Bates and sons on the river Thames at Chertsey in surrey.
Fairacre is one of a range of boats built post war by company from 20 ft inc 25 ft, 29, 30, 33, two 35's 40ft narrow and wide transom models and 7or 8 45ft models some with flybridge some without, the last wooden boat they built only one of , the 47ft Sea star finished in 1976 i seem to remember. There is currently a Star Craft owners club with a good range of the boats in it and have regular meets on the Thames. I worked for the company first on hire fleet in 70's as Saturday lad whilst at school then after a year at Falmoth tech went to work for them full time until august 78 and worked on refurbishing in the paint shop and craning and sliping them to be worked on, sorry to ramble but very happy times for meLiked by Dumaspittman and stevedownunder and - jbkiwiFleet AdmiralHi DRM, thanks very much for the info, must have been an interesting job. Being at the other end of the world, I'm not sure how you classify your boats up there, - we mainly just have runabouts, launches or yachts/motor sailers, (and a few super yachts). Someone mentioned that's what it was, so I went with that. I previously found a photo of the original named boat (Fairacre II ) on the Bates owners site, and I didn't realise it was a genuine name, (thought it was just the model name) Took quite a bit of research to even find where the model originated, (I think the guy from vintage model boats UK pointed me in the right direction) but eventually found it was from the MM709 plan.(maybe originally MAP).
The original was supposedly built in 1957 and had 2 BMC Commodores fitted, and as you say, was a 40ft model. The boat was renamed 'Lady Nassau' but not sure if it still exists. Very nice looking boats, and a totally different look to our launches (we'd call them a 'bridge decker' here). Most of our earlier launches were Kauri planked, then to laminated ply/ply, some foam sandwich, glass and aluminium. They would be an interesting launch to own down here, and would attract a bit of attention from classic enthusiasts.
