Testing results sofar of the SMIT harber tug

This kit from BillingBoats, the SMIT NEDERLAND was A harber tug in Rotterdam Netherlands build in 1979. There where 9 of this tugs working in the harber. You can find more of my building in https://www.modelbouwforum.nl/threads/smit-nederland-billing-boats.282005/

I’ve contact with old sailers of this tug, and they are follow me in Holland, and have a lot of information of these 1800 serie build Tugs, in that time,….
Now i’ve testing the lights and sound.

Tug is still under construction,…

Source for 3/32 reed accent strips

Hello everyone! I hope good things are in store for you all, a new boat, a new love, something grand.
I have a question:
Does anyone have a source for very thin, 3/32 or thereabouts strips which in the Sterling CTLL kit were identified as "reed" strips, 3/32. They are perfect for edges and accents and they can take a bend without being steamed. If anyone knows a place that has this type of material I would really appreciate any info you can provide.

Hello, and good morning. I would suggest you give Cornwall ModelBoats a good coat of looking at. As besides the flexible beech strip they sell which is very flexible, and a short length can be bent around into a circle without any problem. So if you bought three strips, one at the thickness you require, and two more to go on the inside and outside, to make up a channel type capping. they also sell numerous hardwood mouldings shaped, into channels, right-angles, mouldings for hardwood window frames. ect. ect. Give it a looking at and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Regards, Gary.

Built from old kit. I built one before and the Bluefin one too from Dumas. I cut the hull separation so a space is there. In general it was fun. I had to buy an older Rc as only 72 MHz works under water for maybe 3 ft. The ghz signal works surface only. I cut out all the hull flooding holes as per pictures I gathered. Basically built as per blueprints inside except used newer motor controller that can take LiPo batteries. Excuse the messy background.

Like your sub!! We have several sub guys in our club, at least one of them uses 2.4. He runs an extension for his antenna up the sail (conning tower) and hides it in either the periscope or antenna. His boats are static divers, but he stays at periscope depth when he submerges. The boats set up to blow ballast and full up planes if he loses contact. Not trying to criticize anything you’re doing, just letting you know 2.4 is doable with restrictions. Most of the ponds here in North Texas are too murky for much below periscope depth anyway.
Anyway, good luck with your sub! Let me know how it turns out.

I had thought of a float with antenna but in he end use a MHz transmitter was easier. I had sold all mine so I picked up one from eBay. Actually I wound up with two one AM one FM. FM worked better. The dc motor controller was from a car as it had reverse capability plus switchable micas or LiPo. The Ghz band gets water attenuation so it won’t work under water well. Bathtub test showed at least a few feet under was ok. Only thing o don’t like is you seal electronics so it has to be really tested. Battery is on a plastic box like that can open fir access but I put a soda bottle cap structure to access charge connector anyway it’s fun

Status of Caltex Lumba !

I have begun the process, the Sterling kits living up to its rep, at one point there is some plywood, but mainly it's made from what appear to be second matchsticks...it weighs so little, it is hilarious. I plan on glassing it all over so it will eventually get some strength to her. But she's long and frail in this state...but I love her. Everything appears to be as straight as possibe, no horrible curves or bends. Still got my fingers crossed for her. Peace my friends, happy boating👍🤑😂😎😊😊

Unboxing the A plus plus 1980 Sterling Caltex Lumba Lumba

Hi friends, by the weight, it might have been a kite or a foam plane, but no it's Sterling scale from maybe 1980 or so that is something to behold.
I am certain the box also still had some rarefied 1980 air in the box I think...I recognized it. Such a pristine kit I am intimidated a bit, I hope you will appreciate it. Peace, my friends!

Hello my one is still in the white I have not found a colour scheme and deck detail I would like to use. They do sail very well I remember talking to the designer before he re-kitted them for RC.
Which reminds me I have the Trimarran somewhere in the garage.

Camera Boat - update - ( NOTE PULSING NOISE ?? )

Just a quick update with the new camera boat before fitting and running with the Gopro attached.
Observations :-
1. Maneuverability - Great - but better control with high and low rate options!.
2. Speed - Too much ? - may be , but enough for me to throttle back quickly !.
3. Camera - Good balance and rotation for 360*.
4. Cost - Minimal - ie. Motor & ESC kit from Hobbybitz.
5. Noise - 5/10
6. Fun Factor - 10/10 - just for fun ! - enjoy RC Sailing !.

NOTE - I would be interested to know of any theories in respect of the "PULSING NOISE" of the motor ?????

Onboard the Chriscraft Constellation - Odessa

The Odessa is fitted with a action camera to record her journeys. This video was produced as a trial. The Odessa has recently been resprayed in metallic red and the little dingy was removed.
She now also has a crew of three.
1:20 scale - Lindberg kit built.

Camera Boat - still emerging !

From a design concept incorporating an old power boat destined for the rubbish tip ! - to a functional Camera platform to capture some of the fantastic models that sail at our local venues.

The emerging creation ( all be it rough and ready !) will incorporate rotating fan motor and 360 degree rotating camera with live feed FPV camera.

My enjoyment is to capture the the skill, time and effort that fellow modelers put into their creations - whether they be they scratch built, own designs, kit sets or off the shelf.

bought as a project a long time ago

I bought this yacht as a kit in Auckland New Zealand 1973 as a project i was in the merchant navy working for the New Zealand Shipping co. on the M.V. Ruahine after we had dropped our passengers in wellington we would move around the coast picking up cargo it has taken me a long time to get the yacht like this a lot of alterations including the R/C

Hi Mike.
glad that i could help i took the entire cabin off this evening as i had to fit a new sail servo and on turning the cabin section upside down spotted very small numbers on sections of the wood i then remembered all the years ago that the deck and cabin etc came all marked out so you just had to cut them out very easy the hull was very thin plastic type and was prone to cracking a few years ago i striped the lot down and pumped builders foam inside the hull manage to marsked of the servo and rudder section and it made the hull a lot firmer and was still light i plus i know that it won't sink
