Got this kit from E Bay was apartly built well sort of had to re do all the upper deck wheelhouse from scratch was a bit off eeek..Have nearly finished installing all the electrics ready to ballast..I raised the rear hatch area after reading the deck tended to wash over quite easily..Hardly noticeable modification I think..Will sail the model soon and hope all goes well

Always liked this model ever since I saw it at E Port some years ago. 😊 I built an Al Khubar and always regretted selling her. Like you I raised the rear deck to keep the water out. I also have a shed load of boats and many awaiting construction. Maybe someday I will build one. The wheelhouse looks very detailed your efforts have clearly Improved on the original high standard. 😀

    HI Dave
Thank you for your response and kind remarks, like you I have so many builds but in saying that I have sold about 5 in the past year..None I might add have given back even the original buying cost of just the kit not counting all the additional electrics, still it pays for the buying of another kit..Presently I am building a 1/14 scale Man Tamiya truck unit, no gluing reqd everything is tiny nuts n bolts superb detail..I am selling my Aziz for £350 so wont make anything on the deal

No probs. Not sure when my dad was on the Nigeria and Bermuda, I know he joined in 46 at aged 16, first commission was on HMS Vanguard ('46-'48), I think then it was as follows Nigeria ('48-'50), Battleaxe ('50-'52), Bermuda ('52-'54), Opossum ('54-'56) then finally finishing where he started on the Vanguard ('56- late '57). I think that the reason why Gambia beat Bermuda was because they had to paint the side of the Bermuda during a passage through the Suez for an inspection by the King of Egypt (who at the time would only see one side, so thats the side they painted!)......I believe that the crew of Gambia had more time to paint the both sides and probably more paint!!.......hence Bermuda was clean one side and sea beaten the other, I think leave was cancelled when they arrived at Valetta until the other side had been painted!....my Dad is full of stories of his time with the mob, I'm seeing him again in July, will get more details from him then and update if necessary.
All the best and happy sailing, Dave

RAF RTTL Scratch built on GRP hull.
This is my second attempt at scratch building using a a grp hull. My first boat was an MTB/MGB built on a Perkasa hull as a semi-scale model. (see All things Rc - Power setups).
This time I have concentrated on keeping things lighter but it still weighs in at 2.5kg!
I have built without plans, relying on internet photos scaled etc using "Photo deluxe" and "Photo Express".
Virtually everything is built from plasticard apart from a 3mm liteply deck.
The dinghy is epoxy resin and microballoons, ths scramble nets are Lego!
Power is again courtesy of Graupner -2, Speed 600 8.4v using lh. and r.h 35mm props. Esc is one of those 50amp ones from the far east. These are far cheaper than the Viper Marine 40 used in my MGB, but slightly heavier and less sensitive at low speeds. Current drain (in the bath!) is up to 30A but this gives a superb on the water pace of an, estimated,8mph. Battery is a 4,600 mAhr NiMh.
(A true scale speed approaching 150mph plus).
I sail it on Ullswater in the Lake district and the Vosper Perkasa type hull shape is superb in the real waves that we get there, flying over the crests and taking aboard No water!
It really looks the part as my photos would show if I could learn how to load more than one! Can anybody help with this?
