Scratch built Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter
A change from Maid Rosalind Thames cruiser blog posts! This winter I added a removable keel and rudder extension to the Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter I built in 2017. I wanted to produce a hull that was truly accurate above and below the waterline, and with the correct lead in the keel and in scale winds she sailed ok, but to get a model to sail realistically, you generally have to add a lot of weight deep down. The last picture shows that for regular display, the ugly keel and rudder extensions come off and the stand's extended legs unscrew. She stands 6' 2" with her new keel, and 4' 6" long. The trials were successful. She sailed beautifully, even tacking those overlapping headsails flawlessly, which is generally quite hard to do with RC! I have up to now only posted blogs as they happen, but I have full documentation of this build and can start a blog for it after Rosalind is finished, if it's OK to publish something from the past. I added a teaser build picture!

Thank you Doug and Stephen for your help in getting the video to work. The stills give little idea of any movement but the video shows she was really trucking! Ed

    Hi Ed,

The link is fixed. The space in the URL is deliberately added to avoid some web browsers trying to stretch the page width. The gallery works a bit differently to the rest of the site (different code), but I've just enabled the displaying of links.

    Thanks

RC Sailing - BMBC at Buxworth Basin
On Bank Holiday monday 31st August 2020 , Buxton MBC put on a display at Buxworth Basin in the High Peak of Derbyshire.

Ref Wikipedia - Bugsworth Basin is a canal basin at the terminus of the Peak Forest Canal. It is located at Buxworth in the valley of the Black Brook, close to Whaley Bridge. It was once a busy interchange with the Peak Forest Tramway, for the transport of limestone and burnt lime.

"Bionic Bill"
Graham Royle joined the Model Boat Website last summer, returning to modelling after a 45 year break. It was a display at Buxton Model Boat Club last year where he spoke with one of the members that got him started again.

Graham who is now a member of the Buxton Model Boat Club started his latest project "Bionic Bill", only 3 months ago at the beginning of lockdown.

What resulted is truly magnificent working model example of engineering, woodworking, electronics, perseverance and total dedication ! .

Well done Graham !.
PS - Remember, set video resolution quality to HD 1080p (Bottom right cog wheel).

    Phil,

Thanks for doing the video, and spending all the time editing the clips. Much better than anything I could do with my handheld camera.

HMS Victory display model.
Brought another model a HMS Victory this is for display only on a shelf above my television, She was built by a good friend of mine who told me it took him quite a long time to build it, I can believe him as it is a beautiful model.

WEE NIP
Recent Wee Nip convert graham93 displays his "spanking" new Wee Nip at Buxton.
Graham incorporated roller bearings in the gooseneck to reduce friction.

Seen here at play with Fiesta and Windstar.

Seaplane tender ST480
🤞I noticed there are a great deal of RAF plans for various fire tender etc but is there a kit for a Seaplane Tender like ST480 (based at Lyme Regis where this photo was taken) that picked up a pilot off Chesil Beach on 8th November 1941. I am about to put on a display regarding the aircraft and pilot and their history and I have a model of the aircraft a Curtiss P40 Tomahawk and would love to have a Seaplane Tender model on display.

Sandown Train & Hobby Show - RC Boats Display
The Lake Illawong Model Boats club and Task Force 72 Fleet Base Victoria had a combined display at the 2019 Sandown Train and Hobby Show. This video is compiled from the first 2 of the 3 days. We even had a pond erected, but unfortunately a few small leaks restricted its use.

Minerve
A few shots from today at the Portsmouth Model Boat Display Teams new club house at the Explosion Museum, Gosport- the tide was out so no boats on the water ☹️
So we sat back with a coffee and some ice cream, enjoyed the sunshine while watching the tide come in ( to give us an idea of how long either side of high tide we have usable water ) and the various boats going around the harbour with a backdrop of HMS Queen Elizabeth. The ex USS Chesapeake/ex HMS Revenge was given an airing in the sun. She is now the Minerve/HMS Minerve depending on which side she is fighting on

Flower Class Corvette
A short selection of the flower class corvettes of the Portsmouth Model Boat Display Team. All made from the same 1/48 hull mould, they are not exact replicas - more designed to look 'good' on the water. Finely detailed models do not tend to remain finely detailed for long with the abuse the Team puts them through!
I am going through the photo collection and having a good sort out and reorganisation (thanks to my old laptop crashing) amd will post more as I can.
