I Googled 'model figures for Model tugboat' and several sites came up. - Hobbies at Revingham, Suffolk was one. Gaupner ( I think) was another.

Miss england boat with homemade sound unit copied from Alan Bond's design, but modified for V8 sound. Scratch built to represcent the water speed boats that ran on conistan water with seagrave.

Balsa Boat 1970's made to Model Boat plans.

Old boat of my fathers built from scratch in balsa wood, and fibre glassed inside. Use to run a small diesel engine, I took over it and initially put an Orbit 805 motor in then later a better spec model car motor 545/550 water cooled. Finally I swapped it for a 1.25cc glow engine and this video demonstrates the speed with the glow engine. Was almost too fast for the hull, tight turns caused it to nose dive, and plane/wobble badly on its side. Great fun and cheap to run.

That video was from 9 years ago and that was the camera on the latest phone for the time. Since power boats are banned at our pool this is the only video i have of the model running, sorry.
Posted for posterity. MY other boat 26cc kawasaki engine was same time pre IC's ban.

TB 1 HMS Lightning (1878) A

Acquired as an empty hull a year ago. it measures 5'6" from stem to stern and was steam powered. it is carved out of one piece of timber. Now electric powered and using 12v invalid battery. if I can extract the picture from the computer I will include it !! if I can't you can do your own research.

Ramura Hull - wooden boat from 1960's use to have an Ohlsson and rice engine but now runs Kawasaki 26cc Flymo engine.
New homemade carb and also tried running on glow fuel and a glow plug, instead of petrol and the electronic ignition.
Not used any more IC engine's banned at our POOL.😱

Trying to reply to your query about Huntsman power plant, cant find the right place.... anyway cant give you a sensible answer as I dont know. it's an old brushed motor given to me. Will operate up to 24 volts and I'm running it on 14. I think its just right.

About 10 years old, currently with a DC motor setup Hectoperm but complete base plate can be swapped for a 2 cylinder cheddar models Proteus boiler and steam plant. With ABC boiler control. Lovely detailed model, cruses well on 4 Lead acid batteries in parallel lots of power from the MARXX motor and 60 ~ 70mm I forget, 4 blade brass prop. Actually needs more weight in the back already 4 lumps of lead in the back and some plates of stainless steel. When it gets moving the bow wave is huge. 😁

Thank you for your kind comments. if you don't have an Imara you should put it on wish list, at least. it is still best tug kit available, despite its price, and it is not too difficult a kit to complete, even if you limited experience......Richard

Baking soda triggered some old memories, who else remembers the little plastic subs we used to get in Cornflakes boxes? 😉 I once toyed with the idea of making a bigger version, ca 10 -12 ". more important 'stuff' got in the way. Forgot all about it .... until now 😉

Yep, off the bat I could imagine a couple of ways of triggering them; there are loads of mini pressure switches on the market, or a simple diaphragm at one end of the can coupled to a micro switch or mechanical trigger.
Adjustment would be very sensitive due to relatively small changes in water pressure in the first foot or so of wet stuff. Any deeper would be a waste of time, unless you only want to entertain the fish😲
Might also go off on the surface if the can hit the water diaphragm first😡
Whatever, lot of work (and expense?) for a one way trip🤔
Anyway, with my 1/72 scale DCs, approx. 12x5mm, I would need to resort to nano technology. But we should never stop dreaming!
I've seen model patrol boats launching solid fuel missiles from the stern deck so 'Nothing is impossible' - that's maybe why I drive a Toyota😉

oh the memories of fighting my brothers for the subs I think the five of us must have lived on cornflakes (other breakfast cereals are available) so we could have one each ,if memory serves I think there was also a baking soda stingray ,not sure if this was a freebie with cereal I seem to remember it being bigger.
