Preferred location of ESC

Chris,
In many ways, Yes, you have. I don't use brushless, brushed only, very old school, but the theory should be close. I have found that the quality of the wire between the battery and ESC and ESC and motor can be more important than the distance, because as you pointed out, the distances aren't that great. Over here I use a noodle wire, a silicon cased fine multi-standed wire that is very flexible. Deans makes it. It has a high current rating and low voltage loss rating.

Preferred location of ESC

In the hull of the model I am refurbishing, an Aero-Naut Jenny, the brushless motor is located quite some distance from where the battery and receiver are positioned. Is there a preferred location for the ESC? Near the battery to keep the power supply leads short, or near the motor, to keep the motor leads short. Or doesn't it matter considering the the relatively short distances involved whichever way I do it?
If I have the ESC at the back near the battery and receiver, under the cockpit , there is not a lot of headroom when the cockpit is in place and therefore not a lot of fresh air to cool the ESC so water cooling may have to be added. Whereas in the "engine room" there is more space.
Have I answered my own question re the preferred location?
