Just thought I'd check in to assure you that I haven't fallen off the mortal coil yet , they took me off my treatment (wasn't working) so that I can be put onto a trial drug 🤞,you have to have all the previous drug out your system so have been suffering from withdrawal symptoms ,so my latest cancer treatment till I get onto the trial is 8 paracetamol a day.

I am now officially a Covid 19 statistic in SA and have been hospitalized the last 6 days. So nothing done

Re the chinflu, thousands out on the beaches today (my local beach -Orewa,- 3km long and fully packed, not a parking space anywhere) as it's Waitangi day- (commemorating the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi with the Maori on Feb 6 1840) We actually had a community chinflu case locally a week ago but people seem to have ignored that, and everyone's getting a bit complacent, (probably corona burnout.)!

I usually stay home anyhow on days like this, as all the townies come out and invade our beaches by the thousands as a normal thing. No hope of getting a boat in to go fishing even, as they park cars in the 'boat trailer only' signed spaces at the only good ramp and the council does nothing about it, (to be expected, as the latest mayor is a previous failed ex long time polly who did nothing in parliament and is now back on the publics' teat and doing nothing there also.

I asked a Maori guy to move his car back a space one day so I could park my trailer and was met with abuse ***!&&%#@ off, "it's our country (Maoris) and I can park where I like" Fortunately his wife was very nice, and moved it for me. That's the sort of thing that happens when some 'outsiders'😁 come to the coast , (not a lot luckily) as locals are usually pretty laid back up here. Never mind, only happens in summer and hols, I just usually keep away till they go home, specially at the moment with people coming here from all over Auckland!

Very sorry to hear about your wife's illness, do hope the drugs do the trick and help her to feel better. That's not a nice thing to have and I can imagine her feeling pretty upset and depressed about the whole thing.
You are lucky to have a son who can come and sort your car out, I know only too well how arthritis in the hands can affect one's ability to do anything, though I can use most woodworking tools, I can't do up a button or engage a zip. Someone has to do it all for me. I'm sure you will both enjoy having him and the grandchildren with you for a few hours. Hope he gets the repair sorted, then perhaps you can have an 'under the counter trip' out.
Incidentally, did your mother manage to get her jab alright?

Thank you, everyone for your birthday wishes. It was great to have the feeling that we were doing something that was a bit naughty as technically we shouldn't have been going anywhere, but let's face it, we would all like to see a different bit of countryside and even a Morrison's car park is acceptable in present circumstances and if I can't do something out of turn of watch on my 88th, when can I. This was the nearest thing I could think of to get a meal out, the scampi was fine and I wouldn't mind betting we do something similar again before long,. And, no, Alice didn't get me a cake, I made some sausage rolls.

Glad to hear you had a meal out on your birthday Nerys, I've just had notification of my vaccination, just waiting to see which drug and where to go for it.
Caroline has had the results from all her tests but has to go back on Monday for 6 lots of blood tests to determine which drugs they need to contain the illness. Crohns disease.
We have been advised whichever drug she needs will be permanent. It has made her very depressed and feeling really down. Our son and grandchildren are coming tomorrow as my son is going to repair our car as my arthritis is really bad at present. Hopefully when the car is fixed we can take a ride somewhere and possibly have fish and chips out.

Mouldbuilder. Pleased to hear your reaction to the flu jab only lasted the day. My flu jab reaction was always the making of a cold that fizzled out after two or three days. I still have a bit of a stuffed up nose following the covid jab, but some of the other patients had very stiff or sore arms. From what everyone is saying there appears to be very little difference to the reaction to either jab. Might cause confusion in the future, won't know which or neither we have or haven't as the case maybe. Whatever, I celebrated my birthday last week despite the lockdown. Drove to Morrisons ( and it wasn't the nearest one) parked, Alice went in to their cafe and came out with two scampi and chips takeaway. Ate up and drove home. Thus, I went out for a meal on my birthday.

Glad you wrote this Nerys. I had my first ever Flu jab on Saturday and on Sunday I had a headache, aching joints and a sore throat. Today all is good again except for slight joint discomfort. Hope that the Covid jab goes a little better.😁

Seven days to the day after having the vaccine, I developed minor cold like symptoms, blocked , runny nose. Nothing too bad. I spoke to the pharmacist in Boots, when I went in there for a nasal spray and he agreed it was reaction to the vaccine. I wasn't surprised as I invariably have a cold a week after having the flu vaccine.

Referring to the talk about second jabs of the vaccine. One of the nurses who see to my dialysis told me the other night that they had been told there probably wouldn't be enough stocks of vaccine to give them the second jab, they aren't too happy about it.

My wife worked 30 years in pharma and several with Pfizer. She retired about three years ago, but still does consulting and reads all sorts of data.

I'm sure when they first announced that they had acquired the vaccine, they said that second doses would be given after a fortnight. My guess is they didn't do their arithmetic properly and have realised they haven't enough to go round, so are stretching out the time between doses. It's probably another post code lottery.

Pleased to hear you and your wife's sister have had your jabs. Sounds as if Wrexham GPs have got their fingers out unlike a lot of others. As far as you were concerned I assume it was a sort of mass vaccination clinic at your GP's. Second dose in three to six weeks, that sounds a bit more sense.

My wife got a call from her sister in Wrexham on Friday Nerys, saying that she had her virus jab, and she is late 70's, so they may be catching up, had mine on Friday afternoon, a long queue though, of about 50 minutes, a second dose in three to six weeks from our GP.

My wife read the data on the Pfizer product and it says approximately two weeks after 2nd shot. So, you should be seeing results then instead of four months. Clinical studies should be available on your government website.

Yes Colin, that's what I was told, twelve weeks to the second jab and then a wait of three weeks for immunity. Did you see on the news yesterday that senior doctors are querying the long time between jabs and saying it should be cut in half.
Thinking of your Mum, I think it disgusting that in a town the size of Aberystwyth, they can't dish out the vaccine for the doctors to perform.After all it's no more complicated to do than the flu vaccine and that's given to everybody over 65, plus a lot of others and the doctors take that in their stride. Trying to think where they want her to go, Newtown? wherever it is, it's too far for very elderly people at this time of the year.

Talking to my gp yesterday about the virus inoculations, he said although I should be getting mine next month I won't get any immunity for about 4 months from the first jab.
Only then will I have some tolerance to the virus, but can't say if it will work fully .
Sounds a bit like buying a lottery ticket.
My mum still waiting for her jab in Aberystwyth, gp told her that they may be able to supply transport as there are so many housebound 90+ age group that don't drive.

Interesting to hear that your wife's family in Wales think they are at the back of the queue when it comes to treatment of any kind. I saw a graph earlier that showed that Wales in number of over 80's so far vaccinated was , with 23.9% only ahead of Scotland. The North East was top with 64%, England average 56.3%. London 48.1%.

Germany is a federal republic of 16 'Lände', roughly equivalent to the US states.
Angie wants one set of Corona fighting rules for the whole country, which is logical, but the Constitution prohibits that if the Lände Presidents do not agree! Which of course they don't, many are not in the same party as Angie. 🙄
I'm just glad that I'm in Bavaria where our President, Marcus Soder, seems to be on the same wavelength as Angie and has often implemented the necessary precautions long before the other 15 Lände have grudgingly settled their squabbles but still implemented a confusing variety of regulations.
Irritating and inconvenient but I'd rather be inconvenienced, sure I don't like having to be back home by 9pm when I'm with Gisela, than dead!!
