Ron, my daughter is in Toledo and sent me a photo of her snow in exasperation. Her comment (in all caps...)

I'M DONE WITH IT!!

I suggested she move to Maine where it was sunny and bright. 😊

As restrictions start to lift faster than expected here in Bonnie Scotland (there's an election coming up ) ,what pops through the door this morning a letter from the Scottish government telling me I should be shielding! Well just a year to late but I suppose their hearts in the right place ,and another letter telling me I can go back to work even though I'm retired.

That's a lovely suggestion Doug, but I already have the perfect solution. It's called an Alice and it would be completely impossible to build a replica or indeed anything to approach her abilities and willingness.
I have about all the mechanical aids I need. Two mobility scooters, one for shopping, and one for off road, wheelchair, two walkers, one for indoors and one for out, stairlift, and bath lift.

Trouble is house isn't massive and we both have hobbies that take up a lot of space, consequently even the use of the smaller walker is limited indoors. Why do you think Alice built a large shed to supplement the two existing sheds. And we still haven't enough space, even the caravan is used for storage.
Anyway, I'll press on and look at any inventions you come up with interest. You never know.

Your new thread could be interesting.

Cheers, Nerys

"I can't even go to the kitchen and make a cup of tea."
Hmmm!!
Now THAT is a serious disastricle Nerys!
How about we pool our brainy resources on this site and design you either-
1) An RC kettle and teapot,
or
2) An E-Walker or E-chair, as you prefer.
I'm sure that there are enough professional resources, from eng. drawing, machining, mechanical, electrical and software engineering trades and skills on this site to realise such a project.

Personally I favour an RC, or autonomous, Tea / Coffee Maker Robot, which (who?) is also capable of delivering said Tea / Coffee to Nerys at her modelling bench.
A Rich Tea and/or Digestive biscuit dispenser (automatic with tea or coffee respectively) should of course also be incorporated. Tea or coffee is just too wet without them!😋
In these days of autonomous cars (🙄) and selfie taking Mars Rovers with semi-autonomous drones something like this must be possible.
All the bits we need are kicking around on the WWW already; RC Robots etc.
ALL WE need to do is come up with a design to suit Nery's needs.
To kick things off I can contribute an alarm clock controlled tea/coffee maker with integrated two slice toaster and egg boiler! Yes really, 'onest injun! An 'instant breakfast' machine 😋😎 Mix that with an Arduino and stir in Graham93 for a few days and we might be getting somewhere 😀

GADIES AND LENTLEMEN!
This call to arms will shortly appear as a new Forum Thread.
Wherein members will be requested to contribute their design suggestions and/or identify sources of potentially useful parts and gadgets.
So rally round chaps and chapesses 😀 Put your thinking caps on 💡💡
I look forward to a lively response leading to a practical design initiative.😀
Whereupon we can build teams to realise the production dwgs, parts construction, motorisation, electricals, software and assembly & integration.
With best wishes to all our innovative and creative thinkers and doers.
Cheers, Doug 😎

Thank you all for all the encouragement you have given me. I must say to Colin, "cycling", I admire you if you can still do that. Alice bought herself a pre war Raleigh about ten years ago, and I thought I should join her and give cycling a go. I have the scars to prove it.
Life is difficult when you can't get round, I can't even go to the kitchen and make a cup of tea. But as you say, I have Alice and what a rock she is to me. I depend on her for everything, nothing is too much trouble for her, she does literally everything for me.
She is working as hard as she can on the camper in order to get me out and to give me as much pleasure touring as possible, but of course that is limited having to attend hospital three times a week.
Anyway thank you all for your good wishes \and I can assure you, the amount of pleasure I get from this forum is immeasurable.

Cheers, Nerys

Nerys, although not as old I often feel as if life is just going nowhere.
My quacks have taken me off my medication as it was causing stomach bleeds and nausea.
Funny thing is I feel better, I still find walking very painful so taking the doctors advice I have been cycling, my joints make strange noises but are moving freely now.
I have to lay off the medication for 10 weeks and then go for an MRI scan to check if there are any issues.
So keep your pecker up lass, Alice is your strong right arm and I'm sure she doesn't mind you leaning on her.
Just make sure you get better soon.
Best regards to you and Alice, stay safe and hope you feel better soon, Colin and Caroline.

COLIN.

"Getting old is not for the faint hearted" Nerys 🤔
Although nearly 20 years younger I can identify with and sympathise with your lack of energy and lack of 'puff'. In my case symptoms of 50 years smoking and 40 years batting round the world like an errant satellite! I make about a 100 yards then the leg muscles scream for a rest
Hang in there dear lady, and if those pharmacists don't get things sorted pronto BASH 'em wiv ya walker!! OR WE WILL 😠
Denke an dich, cheers, Doug 😎

Hi Nerys,

I am very sorry to hear this.
Unfortunately getting older is something we all have to face.

It is however nice to know that Alice is there to help you.
I know how you feel, it drives you mad when you want to do something but unfortunately you are unable to do it due to lack of energy.
Please don't feel guilty about the lack of progress on your build.
You must take life easy now and rest as and when you feel you have to.
Hopeful you will get your medication sorted out and you will come back with renewed vigour.

I'm sorry to say that I am one of the ones who has not been too good recently. Firstly, every time I took my daily medication I felt sick for the rest of the day. I experimented and didn't take any and I was fine (Fine being relative). After much prolonged chasing I managed to see the hospital pharmacists, they altered several items in my medication, and, I haven't felt sick since. Great, but I am so weak, I need a walker to get around indoors and even then can't go more than about twenty steps without collapsing completely out of breath. Sitting down, is fine, but I struggle to do anything constructive. I'm making the sails for my barge, but it is taking ages because I find it so difficult to raise the energy to start. I tried pulling a cooked chicken to pieces to make a casserole this afternoon, but had to call Alice for help to boil a kettle for me. Putting it crudely, I'm a right mess. So, why am I writing this, is it a cry for sympathy or what. Actually, I think it's a warning. Whatever you do, don't get old. It ain't nice.

cheers, Nerys

Nice to know that Ron is playing golf again, but does anyone have any proper information on our sport/recreation. I've heard a few rumours including one that we can sail as long as there are no more than fifteen people present, but it would be nice to hear something official.

Pleased to hear from you again Mark, but sorry to hear that you are to have a course of chemo. Hope it isn't the same for everyone, but a friend had it a year or so ago and had quite a rough time, but as she's pleased to say, she's still with us.
Do hope all will be well. Best wishes,

Anyway, I want to wish speedy recoveries for all who have been afffected by Covid, the vaccine, or anything else. I truly hope for your speedy recoveries, and that you’re building and sailing with friends soon.
