Phil, you have an excellent talent for video making👍, loved every minute, a great little boat, but what craft did you use for the video camera?
and what program did you use for video editing?😐

I will have a go at building the sail, from what i can see it should be quite simple. I have the plans for the original pocket type sail so will base it on that which depended on the shape of the pocket to get the proper curve. It should not take long - if you don't try you don't get anywhere.

If successful, I will make a proper one and post the stages.

WEE NIP - Lead bulb - (to keep together under the Wee Nip Topic /from previous forum list )

I have tried 3 metods to produce a keel bulb - thought i would also share my experiences .
(1.Casting 2.Shaping 3.Filling)

1. Shape a wooden keel bulb and from it produced a concrete 1/2 mould (*leave concrete to cure/dry) then cast as two lead halves.

2.Cut lead sheet profiles to diminishing templates, glue together and shape to bulb profile.

3.Used 1/2 wooden keel mould to Vac form two plastic keel bulbs which can be filled with lead shot/or concrete - then stuck together.

We have a few boats here that have been experiments, though not strictly within WeeNip guidelines

One with a full glass rounded hull which sails quite well. No sloop rigs but a couple under construction.

Martin - I love your footnote " If it looks right it probabaly is " - my sentiments entirely !

No joy on the logo either - Basicaly everything bog standard from templates, some variation on ply thickness to try cheap materials.
Sails rip stop nylon with sewn pocket luff or eyelet laced.
With artistic licence on materials etc. - I find it is what you want to make it.

I know absolutely nothing about sailing these type of boats but she looked to me that she certainly don't hang about and is very responsive.

The boat looks larger in the video though it could be camera angle.

Do you know whether the Wee Nip class has a regular logo? Cannot find one anywhere.

Video shows just a bit more detail on the surface mounted gear / lever arm set up. S`pose I could do more to reduce friction and increase travel etc. - but hey, what you see is simple and fun !.

That is food for thought. Both for the boat and also as someone has to empty the container.

Should not interfere with the mainsheet and looks quite smooth. I will show it to a couple of our members and see what they think. One has built 75 IOM 1 meters and also has been sailing Micro Magics, but has just built his first Nip and is enjoying it. Is about to build his second so will be interesting.

OK on changing rudder configuration I know what you mean :- while inside it is nice and tidy but can be awkward for access, I tried surface mounting all the gear just on the access hatch on one hull and it works well for me.
Also putting gear in a "ferrero rocher" chocolate box works ok but raises deck profile also !.

That looks interesting Bakerlite should be pretty strong, dont see much of that any more.

I am wondering about changing my rudder configuration to one similar to a laser. Easily removed and installed with the catch at the top. Having trouble with mine and all connections under the deck and hard to get to.

I will have to get some more. Most of my nip photos are on my phone and I are dots in the distance. Will get out my proper camera and get some next week.

We had 11 nips on the water today in blustery winds going round the compass. A lot of out of control boats wishing they had snorkels.

I actually put my bow underneath another nip going downwind. Carried him out of the water for about 20 meters. Quite an interesting situation.

Hi Peter - I also started another We Nip ! - Recycled some ply for the hull from an old cupboard panel, and an old bakerlite chopping board for the skeg/fin and rudder. Assembled over my R&R (rough and ready) hull profile shadow jig which allows room for on the hoof adjustments !. May not be a work of art but it will be water tight, it will be cheap, it will sail and boy I know it will be fun !

We have normally had 6 to 8 regular nip sailors each week but with a little promotion in the newspaper our numbers are growing with more converts. More being built at the moment.

I am starting to build another boat just for a bit of fun. A footy which no one else has heard of. Sound interesting.

Desperate for rain though with the drought. Boats starting to run aground where they have not done so in the past.
Another challenge.

Hi Peter, Liked your comments re Wee Nip (under the Laser forum).
Ok on the florist cellophane and the down wind nose dive ! - I know just what you mean !.
The Wee Nip has been great to experiment with so many things, eg balast position on keel, balast weight, mast position even the simple fixtures , fittings and construction materials as you say such as "Florist Cellophane" for the sails .
Nice to be able to compare notes !.
PS - Will post video of some "rudder only " trials.
