VINTAGE RUNABOUT,- NEW ACCESSORY

Made up the tow hitch (basic pin style) and the jockey wheel /jack . The jack works similar to a proper boat one, with a threaded shaft on the jockey wheel bracket, which screws into an internally threaded tube, (made an insert to take a 3mm thread), which in turn goes into the outer tube which bolts to the trailer frame.

The threaded tube has a stop ring on the bottom end to stop it going into the outer tube and the handle at the top. The central threaded tube is turned to raise or lower the wheel. A bit of paint and a swivel grip on the handle and that part will be done. Lights maybe (dummy or LEDs) will be next.

VINTAGE RUNABOUT,- NEW ACCESSORY

Perhaps Putin could use something like this to transport items up and down his huge table 😁

VINTAGE RUNABOUT,- NEW ACCESSORY

Finally got onto the tail lights,- made some 12x12 ally brackets with 7mm holes to take the bezels which hold the LEDs. The LEDs and bezels and were from one of the GT Power car sound and light systems which I used in my HSL. I had no use for them in the boat (too many wires) so thought they would be just the ticket for the trailer. The 2 sets of twin 5mm LEDs just push in and clip to the bezels. The wires will be lengthened and possibly run to a battery/tool box in the front of the trailer.

I was thinking I might have a plug on the back of the Jeep or truck, with the battery inside, so I can just plug the trailer lights in as per normal (probably a better way). Still more bits to add yet.

VINTAGE RUNABOUT,- NEW ACCESSORY

Tail lights fitted and wired up, just have to wait till I can get to the electronics store to find a small plug and socket to connect to the truck. Re last pic,- both lights are the same, just the angle makes one side look brighter.

VINTAGE RUNABOUT,- NEW ACCESSORY

Had a play with the lights last night. - wired up the trailer plug and hooked the trailer to the truck with the lights on in both. Looks quite reasonable.

That's better than reasonable shipmate, brilliant.
What's next? Reversing camera or parking sensors.
    Cheers Colin.

VINTAGE RUNABOUT,- NEW ACCESSORY

Made up the trailer socket yesterday, needs painting to make it look less obvious. Plug has an o-ring to hopefully make it splash-proof. Tossing up whether to incorporate the trailer lighting into the truck lights, but that needs more wiring, and I think there's enough already. It's only for display purposes, so not critical. Maybe later if I'm bored.

VINTAGE RUNABOUT,- NEW ACCESSORY

Trailer's almost finished so I thought I'd do some decals to break it up a bit. I used MS Paint to draw them, and used white decal paper to print them, then finished with Helmar 'crystal kote' acrylic. Also did the truck number plates (drying in the oven now) and some decals and boots for 'Babs' the skiers' spare skis.

About to start a new project.

VINTAGE RUNABOUT,- NEW TRAILER FINISHED + 'TRAILER PARK'

Tried taking a few more pics today, but the auto focus is playing up in one lens, and clouds blocking sun, so not brilliant. Thought I'd chuck the Hartley cabin boat and trailer (trailer no 1) in for comparison. Hope to get some decent 'beach/ramp pics later. Winter now, so not a lot of all day sun for taking pics.
