Builders block

No not Lego, has anyone else suffered from this ?,builders block ,it must be similar to writers block ,you know what you want to do but just don't seem to be able to get anything done.
Don't know whether to start something else just to kick start the grey matter.

    Hi mark,
At least plating the hull will keep you out of mischief for a long time.LOL!
It would be interesting to see the sub photos.

Will get the lads to send me some on Monday unless the Uni closes down during the mass hysteria.

Back in the groove

Having not been up to it for the last wee while and now feeling a bit like my old self thought it would be a nice time to fight through the spiders in the workshop and continue with Arctic convoy , having next to no materials I found an old bit of 3mm hardboard and decided to use it to plate the Hull ,decided to do away with the rails and give her solid bulwarks ,quite pleased with the results so far.

Thanks Martin, I think the medication is staring to have the desired effect ,and I now want to do stuff rather than feeling a bit sorry for myself🙄,now that the thunderstorm ⛈ has passed back out to the workshop.

I know how you've been feeling Mark, I think the shortened dialysis hours because of Covid problems in hospital have made me terribly lethargic and just not feeling like getting on with anything. Also, I'm finding it impossible to sleep at night , then too tired to do anything during the day. I'm trying hard to motivate myself to go and do a few finishing jobs on my Dutch schouw but it's becoming increasingly difficult. I applaud you in actually starting work on your Arctic Convoy again. Incidentally, I went to North Cape a few years ago and visited what is almost a shrine commemorating the Artctic convoys.

    All the best, Nerys

Razzle dazzle

As the song goes "give 'em the old (😉) razzle dazzle "
After priming and then spraying matt White spent a while masking off the Black ,Blue ,yellow and grey area's ,will have to touch it up as the masking tape unmasked for some unknown reason ,quite happy with the results though .

Thanks for all the great comments ,the masking took ages , but don't know why the tape started to lift at the edges as I was spraying ,maybe cheap tape or maybe it lost some of its stickiness due to lying around for a bit .
Nery's I'm just calling this ship Arctic convoy as a tribute to the heroes who sailed on them. The ship is 39" long

Handrails

Started making up the handrails ,there made from 1/16" (1.6mm) mild steel gas welding rods soldered together ,made a jig for the straight lengths uprights drop through the holes ,rail is soldered on then assembly is pushed up to desired height and then second bar soldered in place ,only one small burn 🙄.

    Hi Marky,

You've, done a great job of the handrails!

Did you put some ice on the burn?

I have to do some soldering of my own.
    On the Smit Nederland build!

    But, I'm dreading it!
I hate Soldering it's my nemesis!

But, eventually will have to do it!

Handrails Continued

That's all the Handrails soldered ,washed them in hot soapy water to clean off the flux residue , they ended up a bit over scale forgot about the thickness of the wire but its a model not a scale representation of an actual ship that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it 😁,a wee clean up and a paint next.

Paint /weathering

Handrails ,mast's and life boats painted ,decided to try weathering don't know if I've gone slightly to far ? or would ships sailing the Arctic convoys be in a worse state?

    Hi Marky,
Weathering is a difficult thing to do.
Depending in the age of the subject and the amount of weathering, only you can decide on how heavy or lightly to do it.
But photos will definitely help you to decide.

There is no right or wrong when it comes to how much weathering to do.
The hardest part is getting it to look right and to scale.

I watched the PQ17 film from the confines of my dialysis chair in hospital tonight. Must say, I was a bit disappointed and would have liked to see more authentic footage. Think I'd seen it before actually. My point is, I did not notice any razzle dazzle camouflage, but plenty of Christmas tree frosty spray.

    Cheers, Nerys
