I have made a start on the Chris Brown Cariad i don't get much time so it will be a slow build
I did not like the idea of the prop coming out the side of the hull so i have cut a recess out in the stern i will be installing a 385 motor and a 6" 4mm shaft with a 35mm 3 bladed brass prop the deck is cut from 2mm light ply
that's all for now folks 👋

I have made a bit more progress by making and fitting the skeg & rudder the rudder was made using oak I used Milliput to secure the stock
the motor is up & running
next I intend putting the ballast in I have made a box between the bulkheads to hold the lead shot once I am happy that it is sitting on the waterline I will seal the shot with fibreglass resin

My Cariad is twice scale, plank on frame. When I did a test floatation to establish how much ballast I would need I found the hull very tender. I was going to put the lead alongside the keel, however I was advised to make a detachable bulb keel. This is what I'm doing, I just wish I had decided earlier. Anyway, keep up the good work and the best of luck!
hI northumbrian.
I built my cariad with the same idea re the lead. fibreglassed all in place but very nearly sank one wet and windy day.
Took all the lead out with difficulty and made a separate detachable keel. The first ran the whole length of the hull but made steering difficult as it acted like a rudder.
Re designed the keel to be deeper and shorter length and can now sail safely in all but the strongest blows.
Details and pics are at http://mdlbt.com/7821 on the build blogs.
You may be OK with internal ballast if you sail on sheltered waters. Our club waters are very wide and exposed so I had no option.
Good luck with the build

The ash deck has been laid and the gunnels are finished all the electrics are installed and working the mast & boom are in progress I have ordered a few brass mast fittings from MODELLING TIMBERS

I have uploaded some pictures of the battery/servo compartments, I have ballasted it with lead shot placed between two bulkheads it is sealed over with bulldog tape instead of resin it can be removed if I need to add more lead at a later date the battery tray is removable for access to the motor & shaft

HI Dave
I have the brass wash port inserts on order from modelling timbers
the Belle Margot I have had the same problem with water washing over the gunnels and getting into the hull I ended up having to put some combing around the hatch and putting wash ports in her
with modelling there is never a dull moment 😑
Bob
I have fitted the gooseneck and made the mast rings and started putting the sails on slow but steady progress

Good to see the scuppers fitted. I am just making the sails for my schooner so will be fitting my sails shortly. I always rig before fitting the deck so still lots to do.
Do you have a launch date?
I think its about finished I just need a decent day for trials on the lake the way the weather is it could be a while 👺
my next build is going to be a coble made from oak

Not knowing any thing about Belle Margot I goggled and it took me to you blog on this site.
So a French kit? is that right.
I think she would look better without the extra gaff sail. Looks to much like a bat wing, that is just my opinion. The spars painted brown would also help.
