Unknown vessels

Two years ago I was given what the owner thought was bin material. He is 86 and entering a nursing home.

Being me I looked at them and identified an IOM hull together with two unknowns. Each boat is fitted with 11cc aircraft engines and used to be raced weekly.

The challenge is now finally started. I have come in “like a wrecking ball” and started work on one. All motors removed. Hulls are fine, nothing not fixable. Top decks removed.

Wish me luck.

The work continues. A lot of work sanding, filling, sanding etc with an old hull. Starting to get somewhere but in ways I wish I had glassed her for a better finish. She doesn’t look too bad though a water test will be interesting.

The question remains of how much effort do I put in for perfection? All good though and she is a lot better than when I started. The timber seems to really soak in the paint.

Next is to work on the new deck. A few photos attached of progress. Also a short video of a friend’s scratch build imaginary yacht.

Work has slowed down but plugging along. I have decided to build my own rudder and offsetting it at the stern due to the location of the propellor.

There is one other option and I am wondering whether other members have used an outboard motor rather than the standard inboard with rudder configuration.

The hull is approximately 34in long with a high transom which would suit an outboard, resolving other issues.
