My stepson has been moving recently and in the process ended up damaging this fishing vessel that a great uncle of his ( long deceased) made for him when he was a lad 👦.
I was given this on Christmas day when he came over to see if I can do anything with it.
Initial inspection is that this was primarily a plastic kit, vacuum hull and wooden fittings, deck house etc. No idea who the manufacturer is/was. Will have to put this on the "production line" till I get the time to work on it

Thanks for the info regarding this project, at present it's been constructed as a static model but with a bit of careful consideration I'm hoping to turn it into rc. Just depends on what glue was originally used and if it comes apart. I will be sure to start a build blog as and when.

Hi Doogle. Are you planning to repaint or leave as is? if you want to preserve the colors you might look at Tamiya's semi-gloss or gloss synthetic lacquers. They're a little pricey, but work well, and I've sprayed over enamel and acrylic with no ill effects. Always test on a small spot first though.

Started to dismantle, slowly, slowly as potentially quite brittle due to the age.
First step was to a cradle for it to rest in. Next managed to remove the wheelhouse and stern upper structure which came away in one piece as the glue had deteriorated over time.
Next step is to get below deck, not overly sure as to how the deck is constructed, wether as a whole or in sections. A bit of research is needed 🤔

Now the refurbishment can begin, unfortunately it would appear that quite a bit of filler had been used, the main hull and body are a bit "tender" , the rudder was fixed with a cocktail stick and the prop fixed with a piece of metal pushed into a wooden bowl on the inside of the hull. Thanks to DW for enlightening me as to the manufacture, got on to the Billing site and was able to get a pdf file of the build. According to the pictures there's a rudder servo in one of the shots and now that it's stripped, I can see the room for rc, watch this space 😊

Now starting to rebuild. The rudder has been salvaged and reused, likewise the prop which is now attached to a 340 brushed motor. Found a suitable length of ballast which fits snugly inside the hull. The original topside of hull/deck/hatches were offering no access internally so I've cut out 2 access areas, the first one on top of the deck is covered by the wheelhouse area which fits nicely and can easily be removed for access to the rudder and servo. The second is under the hatches which again when reconstructed will be removable. When reassembled, this will be running on a basic 2 channel system. Hopefully some more updates this weekend 🙏

Not much progress but managed to make a start with some paint before I move onto starting to lay some decking down.

Finally managed to put the last parts back together. Pleased with the outcome as I don't think I've overdone the restoration. Just need to carry out a test run before her first proper outing Easter Sunday 🐣
