Typhoon final clear

I waited as long as I could then taped the cockpits for a couple hours and this is where I'm at... final clear is on clean, well a couple nubs 🙄 I have a 12 x 12 room with ventilation in my garage to paint. I wear an approved mask, turn the furnace on bake it at about 80 F Happy with final result. Now I can take a day off 😔 Thanks RR

Typhoon rc equipment

Good day, I got all the equipment installed and bench tested. It's a 36-70 brushless system running on 2S but capable up to 6S (I will never go there) 35kg steering servo and engine sound. No problems with installation or running and pleasantly no vibration 😁 Playing around with 12 cylinder sound downloads for the ESS one. Moving on to finish work with fittings etc.

Typhoon navigation lights

Another little project, I tried casting with resin for the first time last evening. The metal lenses didn't look good so I pushed them into dense clay. Then I mixed up some Total boat resin and tinted it with enamel paint and filled the molds. Today I removed them from the clay, cleaned them with sticker removing solvent and applied a clear coat. I think they will look much better. I will also use bare metal foil for the chrome trim. You could also add a small led with this process if you wanted. Thanks, RR

Hi River Rat, you're also great with molds.

Sometimes I have to tell you an anecdote with resin, I risked a dangerous chemical reaction.

Question for all

My question is...how do you all attach your deck fittings? I would like to hear different ways. I placed them all out and then said to myself...🤔 Thanks in advance for any proper ways.

    Thats a tough one Dave
You could use double sided tape. I used that with limited success on my Typhoon, as some fittings are very small.
On other boats I have drilled the fitting for a small pin and drilled a corresponding hole in the model. Then used a little CA to glue it to the model.
    Not much help I'm afraid.

Typhoon Finished!!!

I can call this one finished. It took about 2 months start to finish. I will have a video of the maiden voyage as soon as I can. Hopefully the pond is in decent shape. Thinking about the next project.....

Thanks Boatshed, I am a lucky man, My lady encourages me to build and helps me! I am retired (not forced but recommended), In September of 2020 I had a nasty case of COVID which left me with diminished lung capacity and severe muscle weakness in my legs mostly. I have built 7 boats, 2 trailers and 1 tow car since then. (All in my harbor) I bought these models over the last 20 years so I would have something to do after retirement. Now I am depleting my stock rapidly. (Should have bought more I guess) I still keep up with my chores, cut the grass, rake leaves, shovel snow etc. My lovely wife Kate is by my side with everything...I am very lucky to have her! She is also quite crafty. She helped me paint all the figures on the Creole Queen.
    Thanks again, RR

I just wanted to say thank you to all of you on this site, I have learned more here than anywhere about building techniques and electronics. So a big "THANK YOU!!!" to everyone and keep on building! RR 👍

Typhoon maiden voyage

I finally got the Typhoon in the pond... plenty of rain cleaned it right up. All the Canada geese are gone. 😉 Everything worked well, I had to set the steering rate down as it was very "touchy" I ran it for about 20 minutes, no overheating problems. So I call it a success! It is faster than scale speed for sure but I am pleased with that. Sorry for the poor quality video RR

Typhoon figures

I found a couple figures for the Typhoon. They are 6" tall and fit nicely. I think they add a realistic look especially on the water. I also got a 1/8 Chris Craft Cobra kit from my loving wife for Christmas. I will start a build log on soon. RR

6” figures are used here with the Lobster Yacht also from Fisher-Price Loving Family series.
