"How ,what ,why when"
Hi Roger,
Most (all?) modern ESCs need to be 'taught' which is All Ahead, All Stop and All Back, by moving the throttle stick on the TX Up, Centre, Back.
Seems like when you plugged the ESC into channel 6 you just happened to 'waggle' the stick in the right sequence👍😁

Thanks for your reply I have just tried as you suggested, and nothing happened at all not even the servo working.
So I plugged the esc into channel 6 port and the motor started to turn, I waggled the stick and it turned faster, then centre - stop then down - and it reversed, I then plugged servo into channel 3 port ( don't ask me why ) and we have steering, left- right - centre,
I then moved the esc to channel 2 port - perfect
I switched everything off and on a few times and everything worked perfect ,just like a real one,
How ,what ,why when. I don't care it works.
Thankyou everyone for your input, it really gave me confidence to have a go rather than bin it and buy new
Now back to the brave borderer and the latest secret boat on the slipway, all will be revealed, as soon as I get stuck ,more than likely

Hi,
Unplug your ESC from the receiver, and plug in the rudder servo in place of the ESC. The throttle stick on the transmitter should now control the rudder. That will show if the receiver is working OK. If it is, then the problem is with the ESC.

Good morning
Further to my previous post. I set about soldering a new length of Ariel wire to the receiver. This part of the job went well, so connected up the esc and rudder servo, then the boat battery and switched on, then the transmitter and they paired up ok. On moving the slick the rudder moved accordingly, but the motor would not turn, I tried numerous combinations with the connections onto the receiver but only the rudder would operate. The fuse was OK as power was going to the servo.
Could my esc be faulty?. The transmitter/receiver must be OK as the rudder is operating
Is it possible that the signal from the transmitter can work for the rudder but not the motor.
Touching a battery direct to the motor terminals had it turning so is ok.
I will try another esc tonight to see what happens.
Any thoughts anyone.
